Labiaplasty Techniques
Several surgical techniques can be used during a labiaplasty procedure, and the optimal approach depends on each patient’s anatomy, aesthetic goals, functional concerns, and the amount and distribution of excess tissue. Rather than applying a single technique to every patient, Dr. Pirani individualizes each surgical plan to achieve the safest and most natural-looking outcome.
Regardless of the technique selected, meticulous surgical planning is focused on preserving normal anatomy, minimizing visible scarring, reducing unnecessary scar tissue formation, and maintaining normal sensation and sexual sensation whenever possible.
Trim Labiaplasty
A trim labiaplasty removes excess tissue along the outer edge of the labia minora to create a smoother contour. This technique is particularly effective for patients with elongated tissue extending beyond the natural border of the labia. When carefully planned and executed, trim labiaplasty can improve both comfort and aesthetics while maintaining natural function and minimizing visible scarring.
Wedge Labiaplasty
A wedge labiaplasty removes a wedge-shaped section of tissue from the central portion of the labia while preserving the natural edge of the labia minora. Because the natural border is maintained, this technique may be preferred for selected patients who wish to preserve the native contour while reducing excess tissue. Following a careful examination, Dr. Pirani will determine whether wedge labiaplasty, trim labiaplasty, or another approach is best suited to your anatomy and goals.
Clitoral Hood Reduction
Many women who seek labiaplasty also have concerns about excess tissue surrounding the clitoral hood and the labia minora, or inner lips. When appropriate, a clitoral hood reduction can be performed at the same time as labiaplasty to improve symmetry and create a more balanced appearance. Because the labia minora and the clitoral hood are anatomically closely related, addressing both areas together often yields the most harmonious aesthetic result.
Dr. Pirani carefully evaluates each patient’s anatomy during the consultation to determine whether a clitoral hood reduction would be beneficial, particularly for women who experience discomfort, excess tissue in the clitoral hood, or who wish to achieve improved symmetry. The procedure is performed with meticulous attention to preserving normal sensation, sexual sensation, and function while removing only the amount of tissue necessary to achieve the desired result. Not every patient requires this additional procedure, and any recommendations are based entirely on your anatomy, functional concerns, and aesthetic goals.
