Mole, Cyst, & Scar Removal

Introduction

Introduction to Mole, Cyst, & Scar Removal

Most people have skin lesions that develop with age or scars that they don’t like. Most of these can be addressed with relative ease and comfort. The most common types of skin lesions that patients request removed include moles (nevi or nevus), cysts, and skin tags.

Similarly, many patients seek the help of a cosmetic plastic surgeon such as Dr. Pirani, who will improve the appearance of their scars.

Her arms are wrapped around her torso, and she's wearing a dark-colored, soft undergarment. The lighting highlights her, creating soft shadows and emphasizing her body contours. The background is a dim, neutral-toned studio backdrop, fading from darker to light beige or tan. What is Mole, Cyst, & Scar Removal?

Mole, cyst, and scar removal treatments address common skin concerns that may affect your confidence or comfort. Depending on your scar’s size, location, and nature, Dr. Pirani will create a unique scar revision plan to reduce its visibility. This plan may involve non-surgical and surgical techniques or a combination of both.

  • Mole: Pigmented skin growths that may be raised or flat. While most are benign, some may need removal for cosmetic or medical reasons.
  • Cyst: Fluid-filled sacs that form beneath the skin and can sometimes cause discomfort or become infected. Removal typically involves draining or surgically excising the cyst.
  • Scarring: Develops as part of the skin’s natural healing process but can sometimes appear raised, indented, or discolored. Scar revision techniques aim to reduce their prominence and improve skin texture.

What Are the Benefits of Mole, Cyst, & Scar Removal?

Getting moles, cysts, or scars removed provides benefits beyond just aesthetics. If you’re physically or emotionally uncomfortable due to the blemishes, removing them can provide relief. Here are just some advantages of removing them reported by patients who received this treatment:

  • Enhanced Skin Appearance: Created smoother, more even skin, giving patients a cleaner look.
  • Improved Comfort: Removal improved daily comfort for lesions causing physical irritation, such as rubbing against clothing and becoming inflamed.
  • Medical Peace of Mind: Removing moles or cysts allowed for pathological analysis and caught potential issues early on.
  • Minimized Scarring: Advanced removal and revision techniques left little to no visible scarring, especially in more prominent areas.
  • Long-Lasting Results: Lesions and scars did not return when properly treated and cared for.

Who Are the Best Candidates For Mole, Cyst, & Scar Removal?

In addition to those unhappy with the appearance of their skin concerns, ideal candidates include:

  • Healthy Individuals: Candidates should have no underlying conditions that may impair healing, such as uncontrolled diabetes or immune disorders.
  • Non-Smokers: Smoking can hinder the healing process. It’s recommended to quit 3-4 weeks before and after treatment.
  • Patients with Practical Expectations: While treatments can significantly improve appearance, they may not eliminate every scar or lesion.
  • Individuals with Suspicious Moles: If a mole has recently changed in size, color, or texture, it’s important to have it examined and possibly removed.
  • Those Seeking Preventative Care should know that removing problematic moles or lesions before they become painful or malignant can prevent future complications.

What’s the
First step?

Start with a consultation if you’re considering getting a scar, mole, or cyst removed. During your appointment with Dr. Pirani at Toronto Plastic Surgery, he will review the risks and complications of your customized treatment plan and give you an idea of what to expect in terms of results and recovery.

Dr. Pirani’s goal is to educate you so that you fully understand your customized treatment plan.

What to Expect on the Day of Mole, Cyst, & Scar Removal Surgery

In most cases, moles, cysts, and skin tags can be removed within 15 to 20 minutes under local anesthesia while you are awake. Most patients find it to be a surprisingly pleasant experience.
After infiltrating the area around your lesion with a local anesthetic (“freezing”), Dr. Pirani will remove the lesion and send it for analysis by a pathologist to diagnose it. Small sutures are then inserted, and a small dressing is applied. Dr. Pirani will follow up with you regularly to ensure your healing. Dr. Pirani will also institute a specific scar management plan with you to reduce scar visibility.

Mole, Cyst, & Scar Removal Recovery

Recovery from this treatment varies based on the procedure. Mild swelling, redness, or tenderness in the treated area is common for mole or cyst removal and typically resolves within 1–2 weeks. If stitches are required, they are usually removed within 7–10 days. Scar revision, on the other hand, may require a longer healing period depending on the scar’s size and location. While improvements are noticeable within a few weeks, full results may take several months as the scar continues to fade.

Dr. Pirani will recommend scar management products, such as silicone sheets, topical creams, or sunscreen to optimize healing. Although most patients can quickly return to their normal routines, avoiding strenuous activities or prolonged sun exposure is advisable.

How Much Does Mole, Cyst, & Scar Removal Cost in Toronto, Ontario?

The cost of Mole, Cyst, & Scar Removal in Toronto will depend on variables such as the type and size of the lesion, the number of lesions being treated, and the complexity of the procedure.

For instance, removing a small mole typically costs less than addressing a larger cyst or performing scar revision, especially if the lesion is in a sensitive or hard-to-reach area. However, multiple lesions treated in the same session can increase the overall cost. On average, this treatment costs $800 to $1500 per lesion.

During your consultation, Dr. Pirani will provide a personalized breakdown of all costs with complete transparency and clarity.
