A brachioplasty or arm lift is a procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat in the upper arms. Brachioplasty surgery improves upper arm shape, size, and contour. Many patients who have lost a significant amount of weight (often after bariatric surgery) complain of excess upper arm skin. This can result in difficulties in finding clothing that fits well and avoidance of short sleeved clothing.

Depending on the amount of excess skin and fat, the surgical incision can vary between a small arm pit incision (short scar arm lift) to a longer incision along the entire length of the upper arm. This latter incision is often reserved for cases with a significant amount of excess skin such as in the post-bariatric patient.
