Toronto Fillers Treatment – Dermal & Facial Fillers

We’ll help you turn back the signs of aging with dermal fillers, a safe and effective alternative to surgery.

Introduction to Dermal Fillers & JUVÉDERM®

During the natural aging process, we tend to lose volume in our face. This loss of volume contributes to a less youthful appearance. Volume enhancement with dermal fillers & facial fillers can help counteract this process and restore a more youthful appearance.

About Dermal Fillers

Aging can take a toll on the skin causing a loss of volume, wrinkle formation, and skin sagging. Collagen and elastin fibers break down over time, leaving our faces looking tired and old. But with the help of dermal fillers, facial appearance can be rejuvenated to its youthfulness with facial fillers and JUVÉDERM.

What Are Injectable Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers & JuvedermAn injectable dermal filler is a filler made up of hyaluronic acid that is injected into the soft tissue under your skin. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance within your body. Facial fillers are used to replace volume that has been lost in your face due to aging or weight loss, giving you a younger and more refreshed appearance. They can also be used to help fill out areas in your face that are naturally less full, such as your lips. Dermal fillers can also be used to maintain the appearance that you already have. This will reduce the signs of aging in a minimally invasive, non-surgical way.

Toronto dermal fillers specialist Dr. Pirani uses the best and safest hyaluronic products available to ensure that you get the best results possible.

What To Expect At Your Dermal Fillers Procedure

Before you come in for your dermal filler procedure, you will need to stop taking any anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen or naproxen as well as blood thinning medication, such as aspirin. This is to help prevent bruising from the procedure.

Your dermal filler procedure can take anywhere from 15 minutes up to an hour, so you will not need to take too much time out of your schedule for the appointment, but you are likely to experience some swelling after the procedure. Most swelling will go down in the first 24 hours, but you could still be swollen for about a week after receiving your injections.

Which Is The Best Facial Filler?

Injectable Dermal FillersThere are many different types of soft tissue fillers or injectables available. Each different filler has unique characteristics that make it ideal for use in certain areas of the face to achieve specific results.

Dr. Pirani uses only the best products and safest techniques to achieve natural looking results. As one of Toronto’s most knowledgeable and well-versed injectable specialists, he has served on advisory boards for both Allergan and Galderma.  Allergan produces BOTOX® and the JUVÉDERM® family of facial fillers.  Galderma produces DysportTM and the Emervel® and Restylane® facial filler lines.

Dr. Pirani uses a combination of products to achieve the best and most natural looking results.  As an experienced injection specialist, Dr. Pirani uses JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, Perlane®, and Emervel® product lines.

The combination of JUVÉDERM® dermal filler and BOTOX® treatments is known as a SOFT LIFT™. This is a unique and completely non-surgical facial rejuvenation technique offered by Dr. Pirani.

How Long Do Dermal/Facial Fillers Last

You will need to remember that hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance within your body, so over time, your body will metabolize the hyaluronic acid. On average, injectable fillers can last anywhere from 6 to 18 months, depending on where you had the filler placed.

Here Are Some Common Lifespans Of Injectable Fillers

Lips: Lips have the shortest lifespan when it comes to dermal fillers because of how much we move them. All of the movement makes you metabolize the filler fast than other areas, which typically means it will last about 6 months.

Under Eyes: Under the eyes the filler can last longer, up to a year.

Smile Lines: These lines should last about as long as your lips would, about 6 months.

Cheeks and Midface: This area will have the longest lifespan, lasting anywhere from 9 months up to 18 months.

Here Are Steps That You Can Take To Help Keep Your Filler Lasting Longer

Limiting Sun Exposure: UV rays that damage your skin can also damage your dermal fillers. Make sure you are wearing adequate sun protection outside.

Skin Care: You should also make sure that you are using facial washes and creams at home to maintain your skin.

Life and Stress: Sometimes even stress can shorten the lifespan of a dermal injection.

JUVÉDERM®

Dr. Pirani is a board certified, award-winning plastic surgeon that performs all filler and JUVÉDERM injections himself. Dr. Pirani does not employ nurses to do the injections for him, giving his patients the peace of mind that they are in the best hands for their JUVÉDERM and filler treatments. Knowing the importance of a speedy recovery, Dr. Pirani is known for using state of the art treatments that minimize bruising and vascular injuries such as using micro-cannulas for injections.

What Are JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, Perlane®, And Emervel®?

These product lines are all hyaluronic acid based injectable fillers. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found within your skin. It is one of the most studied and frequently used injectable fillers available in North America and throughout the world.

Hyaluronic acid facial fillers absorb water from surrounding tissues to help plump up areas such as the lips. They also increase collagen production to help decrease visible lines and wrinkles. These hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers are considered non-allergenic and are reversible.

Which Dermal Filler Is The Best Option For You?

We believe that each individual case is unique and offer a variety of different fillers to ensure the best results possible. Some of the factors we consider when choosing the right filler for you are which part of the face is receiving the filler, what look you are trying to accomplish, how long you would like the filler to last, and if you have any allergies. Dr. Pirani consults with his patients to determine which combination of products such as the dermal filler JUVÉDERM will help them achieve the desired results.

Natural looking results are achieved with the use of the best products and safe techniques. Dr. Pirani is renowned in his skills as an injectable specialist. Botox and JUVÉDERM producer Allergan, and Dysport, Emervel, and Restalyne producer Galderma have trusted him on their advisory boards. He uses a combination of these quality filler products to give his patients a fresh and youthful look.

Although he is a licensed plastic surgeon, not every procedure requires surgery. Combining JUVÉDERM with Botox is a technique known as a Soft Lift that rejuvenates the face without undergoing an invasive surgery. This is a unique way to look as young as you feel.

JUVÉDERM® Treatment Areas

Facial FillersJUVÉDERM is used in many areas of the face to fill lines and restore a youthful appearance. There are different formulas available to achieve various results. As cheeks lose volume due to age, JUVÉDERM can be used to lift and contour the cheeks, making them plump and voluptuous. When injected to these areas, the face has the appearance of being full.

Fine lines can appear on the face from smiling that stretch from the nostrils to around the mouth, often known as parentheses lines. While this is a common form of crease, it can take away from your desire to smile. Using JUVÉDERM, these lines can be smoothed back to their youthful appearance, eliminating the telltale lines of age.

Plump lips are a desirable trait, for those who either noticed the thinning of the lips due to age, or for those who have naturally thin lips regardless of age. Having a JUVÉDERM fill brings new life to the lips, either filling and plumping them, or adding slight volume while smoothing vertical lip lines depending on the product used.

How Is JUVÉDERM® Injected?

JUVÉDERM is injected during a short visit to the plastic surgeon’s office. This non-invasive procedure is administered through an injection. JUVÉDERM has a lidocaine numbing agent in the filler which helps alleviate pain during the injection. Your doctor ensures appropriate anesthetics are used during your procedure depending on what you are having done.

Who Is A Candidate For JUVÉDERM® Treatment?

Individuals who are experiencing moderate to severe wrinkles, folds, and volume loss due to age or undesirable facial traits can all benefit from a JUVÉDERM treatment. JUVÉDERM is not recommended for those who have a history of allergic reactions to lidocaine and gram-positive bacterial proteins.

The safety of the procedure for those who are under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding has not been established, and research has not been done on those who have pigmentation disorders and excessive scaring.

It’s important to consult with a licensed plastic surgeon to determine your eligibility for a JUVÉDERM procedure. Filling works differently on different patients depending on their characteristics, and what they want to accomplish.

What Results Can You Expect With JUVÉDERM®?

JUVÉDERM is a proven solution to reducing the appearance of fine lines, adding volume to the cheeks and filling out wrinkles. Results can last up to a year, with the need for less filler in the future treatments. Compared to other filler products, JUVÉDERM is a smooth consistency gel that is malleable, giving a natural looking result. It works by temporarily adding volume to the site by holding in moisture. You can also expect a relatively quick and minimally invasive procedure, making it ideal for individuals with busy lives.

Dermal Filler Before & After

How Long Do JUVÉDERM® Results Last?

When patients receive optimal treatment on wrinkles and folds, they can expect results that last between 6 months and a year.

Who Is A Candidate For Volume Restoration With Injectable Or Dermal Fillers?

If you are concerned about any of the following, then you may be a candidate for an injectable filler treatment:

  • Deep lines in your forehead
  • Deep lines between your eyebrows (frown lines)
  • Wrinkles and lines around your eyes
  • Hollow and depressed areas around your eyes (tear troughs)
  • Deep lines around your mouth and the corners of your lips (Marionette Lines)
  • Deep nasolabial folds and lines
  • Jowls or irregular jaw contour
  • Poor Lip Definition
  • Small or deflated lips (Lip Enhancement and Volume Augmentation)
  • A loss of cheek volume (Malar Enhancement)
  • A small chin (Chin Augmentation)
  • An aged appearance to your hands (prominent veins and tendons)

How Long Does It Take To See Results After Dermal Filler Injections?

Some results from the dermal filler will be immediately noticeable, but you could be swollen for a few days, making it more difficult to know exactly what your results look like. Since you are injecting the filler into your skin, it is not something that has to build up over time in order to see your results, so you should see some results pretty quickly.

Some patients swell more than others after receiving their dermal filler injections, so you can expect to have some swelling for up to a week after your procedure. You can expect to see accurate results about two weeks after the injection, when the swelling has gone down and the hyaluronic acid is able to do its job.

Are Dermal Fillers Safe?

Because dermal fillers are made using hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in your body, there are few risks associated with the treatment. In fact, fillers have been proven to be safe continually over the last few years. The injection will gradually metabolize over time, in a completely safe way. All major makers of filler have been approved and shown that they have great safety records.

If you are concerned about the safety of dermal fillers, call Dr. Pirani’s office today to setup a consultation. He will be able to answer all of your questions and concerns directly, ensuring that you feel confident about your procedure before having it done.

Dermal Fillers FAQs:

How long does a typical dermal filler appointment take?

A typical dermal filler appointment takes about 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated. It’s a relatively quick procedure with minimal downtime.

Can dermal fillers be combined with other cosmetic procedures?

Yes, dermal fillers are often combined with other cosmetic treatments such as Botox, laser resurfacing, or chemical peels to achieve comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

Is there an ideal age to start getting dermal fillers?

While there’s no “ideal” age to start, many patients begin getting fillers in their late 20s to early 30s to prevent or correct the appearance of fine lines and volume loss. It ultimately depends on your aesthetic goals.

How soon after filler injections can I apply makeup?

You can apply makeup about 4 to 6 hours after receiving dermal fillers. However, it’s important to be gentle and avoid pressing too hard on the treated areas to prevent shifting the filler.

Can dermal fillers help with acne scars?

Yes, dermal fillers can be used to smooth out and fill in depressed acne scars, providing a more even skin texture and appearance.

Are there any long-term side effects of regular filler use?

Long-term side effects are rare when dermal fillers are administered by a qualified professional. Over time, some patients may experience changes in how their filler looks, but most effects can be managed or reversed if needed.

How do fillers affect facial expressions?

Dermal fillers are designed to enhance your natural look and should not significantly affect facial expressions when done correctly. Fillers add volume, but they do not freeze muscles as Botox does.

Can men get dermal fillers too? Are there any differences in treatment?

Yes, men can get dermal fillers, and it’s becoming more common. The treatment approach may differ slightly to maintain masculine facial features, such as focusing on enhancing the jawline or reducing under-eye hollows.

Is it possible to develop an allergy to fillers over time?

While allergic reactions to fillers are rare, some patients can develop sensitivity to the ingredients. This is more common with non-hyaluronic acid-based fillers. Always consult with your doctor about any concerns.

How does weight fluctuation affect filler results?

Significant weight loss or gain can affect the appearance of fillers, particularly in areas like the cheeks or jawline. It’s important to maintain a stable weight for more consistent results.

Can fillers be used to reshape the nose (non-surgical rhinoplasty)?

Yes, dermal fillers can be used to reshape the nose in a procedure known as non-surgical rhinoplasty. This can address issues like bumps, asymmetry, and minor contour irregularities without surgery.

How soon after fillers can I exercise?

It’s generally advised to wait 24 to 48 hours before engaging in strenuous exercise after getting dermal fillers to prevent swelling and movement of the filler.

Can fillers help with facial asymmetry?

Yes, fillers can be used to improve facial asymmetry by adding volume to specific areas to create a more balanced appearance.

How does sun exposure affect filler results?

Sun exposure doesn’t directly affect filler results, but UV damage can accelerate the aging process, which may affect the overall appearance of your skin. Sunscreen is recommended to protect the skin post-treatment.

Can fillers be used to improve the appearance of hands?

Yes, dermal fillers can be used to restore volume to aging hands, reducing the appearance of prominent veins and tendons for a more youthful look.

Are there any dietary restrictions before or after filler treatment?

It’s best to avoid alcohol, as well as blood-thinning supplements and medications (like aspirin or fish oil) before and after filler treatment to reduce the risk of bruising.

How does smoking affect filler results?

Smoking can lead to premature aging and affect the skin’s elasticity, potentially reducing the longevity of dermal fillers. Quitting smoking can help optimize the results of fillers and improve overall skin health.

Can fillers be used to enhance cheekbones?

Yes, fillers can be used to add volume and definition to the cheekbones, creating a more lifted and contoured facial appearance.

Is it possible to reverse the effects of fillers if I’m not satisfied?

Yes, hyaluronic acid-based fillers can be dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase. This provides an added layer of security for patients unsure about committing to fillers.

How does alcohol consumption affect filler results?

Drinking alcohol before or after filler treatment can increase the risk of bruising and swelling. It’s generally recommended to avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours post-treatment.

Can fillers help with chin augmentation?

Yes, fillers can be used to add volume to the chin, improving the shape and profile of the face in a non-surgical chin augmentation procedure.

How soon after fillers can I fly or travel?

You can typically fly or travel shortly after receiving fillers, but it’s a good idea to wait at least 24 to 48 hours in case of swelling or bruising.

Can fillers be used to treat temples?

Yes, fillers can be injected into the temples to restore volume and create a more youthful, balanced facial appearance.

How does stress affect the longevity of filler results?

Stress itself doesn’t directly affect filler longevity, but stress-related habits like poor skincare or muscle tension could contribute to aging and thus affect overall skin health and appearance.

Is it safe to get fillers if I have autoimmune disorders?

If you have an autoimmune disorder, it’s important to discuss this with your doctor before getting fillers. In some cases, there may be an increased risk of complications or reactions.

Can fillers help with improving the appearance of earlobes?

Yes, fillers can be used to plump earlobes that have lost volume or have become stretched from heavy earrings, restoring a youthful appearance.

Can fillers be used to improve the appearance of scars from injuries or surgery?

Yes, fillers can be used to raise depressed scars, including those from injuries or surgery, making them less visible and improving overall skin texture.

How do dermal fillers interact with facial muscle movement over time?

Dermal fillers are designed to work beneath the skin, adding volume and smoothing wrinkles without targeting facial muscle movement. Over time, as fillers naturally dissolve, they are metabolized by the body. Regular maintenance treatments can ensure consistent results while preserving natural expressions.

Can dermal fillers improve the appearance of neck lines?

Yes, dermal fillers can be used to soften horizontal neck lines by restoring volume and smoothing the skin. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are particularly effective as they provide hydration and improve skin texture in the treated areas.

How do dermal fillers affect skin hydration and overall skin health?

Hyaluronic acid-based fillers attract and retain moisture, enhancing skin hydration and improving elasticity. While fillers primarily add volume, their hydrating properties can contribute to a more youthful and radiant appearance.

Can fillers be used to correct asymmetry in lip shape?

Yes, dermal fillers are an excellent option for correcting lip asymmetry. They can be precisely injected to balance proportions, enhance volume, and create a more symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing appearance.

What’s the relationship between dermal fillers and collagen production in the skin?

Some types of fillers, such as Radiesse and Sculptra, stimulate collagen production. This helps improve skin texture, elasticity, and firmness over time, providing longer-lasting results beyond the filler’s immediate effects.

How do dermal fillers interact with facial massage or facial exercises?

It’s advised to avoid facial massages or exercises in the treated area for at least 24-48 hours after filler injections. Excessive pressure can disrupt the placement of the filler. Once healed, normal activities can resume without impacting the filler’s results.

Can fillers be used to improve the appearance of a gummy smile?

Yes, fillers can help improve the appearance of a gummy smile by adding volume to the upper lip, which helps cover more of the gums when smiling. In some cases, Botox may be used in combination for optimal results.

How do dermal fillers affect the skin’s natural elasticity over time?

Dermal fillers can enhance skin elasticity by providing hydration and stimulating collagen production. However, overuse or incorrect placement can stretch the skin temporarily. Working with an experienced injector ensures natural-looking results while preserving skin integrity.

Can fillers be used to improve the appearance of earlobe creases or stretched piercings?

Yes, dermal fillers can rejuvenate earlobes by adding volume to creased or sagging areas. They can sometimes also improve the appearance of stretched earlobe piercings, creating a smoother and more youthful contour; however, surgical correction is usually better for stretched earlobe piercings.
