Lip Injections FAQs

 In Non Surgical Procedures

Why would I need a lip injection procedure?

Lip injections are used to augment the size and the shape of your lips. The injectable fillers offer a non-surgical solution to enhance the appearance of your lips.

What material are lip injections made of?

The injectable fillers used in lip augmentations are made of a hyaluronic acid gel, which is a substance that naturally occurs within the skin and is what helps with volume and hydration.

What happens at a consultation appointment?

At your consultation appointment, Dr. Pirani  will listen to your expectations and reasons for wanting a lip augmentation and answer any questions you might have. He will examine your lips and mouth and review your medical history to ensure there are no underlying reasons to not do the procedure. Based on your needs and situation, he will then determine whether you are a good candidate to receive the lip injections.

How do the lip injections work?

Lip Injections Procedure

The lip injections work by using a syringe to inject hyaluronic acid under the skin of your lips. The hyaluronic acid naturally occurs within the body, so it is a natural option to help increase the size and shape of your lips. As a result, your lips will be fuller and plumper.

How many treatments are needed?

The amount of treatments you need depends on what kind of result you want from the procedure. A conservative augmentation that has subtle changes usually only needs one injection, something more involved would need more volume.

How long do the injections last?

The injectable fillers are only temporary. On average, they last around 6 months, depending on how the filler absorbs into your body over time. Some patients metabolize the filler faster than others.

What are the risks with lip injections?

There are very few risks associated with lip injections, but they do exist. Rarely some patients experience an allergic reaction. If you are concerned you are suffering from an allergic reaction, call us immediately.

Can you reverse the process?

In the event that the filler has overfilled an area or if you are unhappy with the change in appearance of your lips, Dr. Pirani can dissolve the filler using an enzyme called hyaluronidase.

How soon will I see the results?

Your results will be visible instantaneously. Lip injections are easy to do on your lunch break because they do not take long and the results are quick. Your lips will be a little swollen at first, but that should go down within 24 hours.

Is there a recovery time?

The first day or so your lips might be a little big swollen and in some cases, slight bruising might occur at the injection site. Otherwise, this is a procedure that can happen during the work day and you can return to work right after your appointment.

Will they still feel like my lips?

Absolutely. They will be fuller but will not feel any different sensation-wise than they did before.
