Recovery After Neck Lift Surgery
One of the things to keep in mind if you want to get neck lift surgery is how long you will need to recover.
While options like laser treatments and fillers can be helpful, neither of them will get you the sorts of results you can achieve by undergoing neck lift surgery. Of course, you should expect to have more downtime for post-neck lift surgery than you would need for laser treatments or fillers. But exactly how long might you need to get back to normal after going under the knife? Read on to get some answers.
Surgery Time
Neck lift surgery can take up to about four hours and usually goes for at least 2.5 hours. Of course, the precise time will depend on exactly what the surgeon has to do. It is an outpatient procedure, so you may be able to return home the day of the surgery.
Post-Surgery
Post-surgery, your surgeon may send you home after putting a wrap on year head that goes beneath your chin like a strap. The wrap will have a drain on both sides that exits the skin behind your ear. In order to help to reduce swelling, your surgeon might request that you sleep on a recliner for a period of time post-neck lift surgery.
The dressings applied could remain for a couple of days after which you will be required to go back to your surgeon’s office for a follow-up visit. At the post-operation visit, the surgeon will take off all of your dressings and drains. Then you will be outfitted with a compressive chinstrap that will keep swelling at bay. Depending on the surgeon and the extent of the surgery, you may have to wear the compressive chin strap around the clock for about three days followed by each night for an additional three days.
Discomfort Level
The amount of pain you feel will likely not be as much as you might think. In fact, many people who have undergone neck lift surgery report mild discomfort following the procedure. So don’t think it out of the ordinary if you possibly feel pain in your ears for a few days after the surgery. You may require prescription pain medicine for a few days before moving onto over the counter pain medication.
Neck lift surgery is a safe procedure that can give you the results you’re looking for. Do your homework so that you find the right plastic surgeon to perform the procedure, and be sure to follow all the advice and orders he or she gives you.
