In many cases it will make more sense to get a mini tummy tuck instead of a full one. Dr. Pirani will help you determine what procedure makes the most sense for you so that you can enhance your look and live with confidence.

Although a traditional tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) can result in impressive and lasting improvements in abdominal contour, it is associated with a long scar.  Not every patient needs a full tummy tuck, however. In many fit people with only a small amount of excess skin and good skin tone, a mini tummy tuck combined with abdominal liposuction is a better option. A mini tummy tuck uses a much smaller incision and results in a shorter scar than a traditional tummy tuck.  It is best for individuals with excess skin predominantly below the belly button, limited excess abdominal fat, and little muscle laxity.

A Mini tummy tuck is associated with a quicker recovery and less post-operative discomfort than a traditional tummy tuck.

Who Is a Candidate for a Mini Tummy Tuck?

You may be a candidate for a mini tummy tuck if:

  • You have excess skin limited to below the level of your belly button
  • Minimal muscle laxity
  • Good skin tone

Sometimes, a mini tummy tuck is the only option for patients seeking abdominal contouring that have contraindications to traditional tummy tucks.

Recovery After a Mini Tummy Tuck

After your mini tummy tuck, Dr. Pirani will usually have you stay overnight in our accredited surgical facility. You’ll be attended to by 2 nurses during your stay. These nurses will make sure that you are comfortable.

Dr. Pirani will see you the next morning to change your dressings and make sure that you’re doing well prior to discharging you home. You will see Dr. Pirani regularly after your surgery.

Patients generally take a few weeks to recover from a mini tummy tuck. Many patients are able to return to work within 1-2 weeks after a mini tummy tuck. You will generally need to wear a compression garment for several weeks to decrease swelling.
