Tighten Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

This procedure is designed to improve the shape and contour of the abdominal region by removing excess abdominal fat and skin and by tightening the abdominal wall musculature. The result is a leaner, tighter, and more youthful appearance.

About the Treatment

  • Who is a good candidate for this procedure?

If you are concerned about excess abdominal skin, excess abdominal fat, or abdominal stretch marks (striae), then an abdominoplasty may be an ideal procedure for you. Many people choose to have a tummy tuck after losing a significant amount of weight or after pregnancy.

Good surgical candidates should be relatively healthy. Smokers should quit smoking at least six weeks prior to surgery.

  • How does Dr. Pirani perform a tummy tuck?

Depending on the amount of excess skin, fat, and muscle weakening that you have, Dr. Pirani will customize a unique surgical plan to address your concerns while minimizing incision size.

In people with minimal amounts of excess skin or abdominal fat, a mini tummy tuck is often the best option. This can be combined with tightening of the abdominal core musculature to optimize abdominal shape and create a rejuvenated and youthful appearance with minimal scarring. In individuals with a more significant amount of excess skin, fat, or stretch marks, a more traditional tummy tuck may be the option of choice.

Regardless of the amount of excess abdominal tissue you have, Dr. Pirani will devise a surgical approach that minimizes scarring while maximizing results. Dr. Pirani will often combine liposuction and fat transfer techniques with abdominoplasty surgery to optimize your cosmetic result.

  • Will this procedure help me lose weight?

A tummy tuck is not a weight-loss procedure but more of a contouring procedure that helps you obtain the shape you desire. You need to be at your ideal weight before having the procedure, and afterwards you will want to keep up with your fitness routine and healthy habits to ensure the bulge won’t return in the future.

  • Is age a factor?

It’s a common misconception that tummy tucks are only for the young. The truth is that age has very little to do with whether a tummy tuck is a good choice for you. In fact, sometimes waiting until you are older to get a tummy tuck is beneficial. When you are sure of your habits and lifestyle and have more time to commit to yourself, it’s easier to give yourself the gift of a tummy tuck. The bottom line is that healthy patients in their 60s and 70s can be just as good candidates for the procedure as younger patients.

  • Should I wait until after I am done having children?

It is a good idea to wait until you are done having children before proceeding with a tummy tuck to avoid needing to have another procedure in the future. Many women will wait until they are done having children and get a mommy makeover, which includes a tummy tuck, breast lift, and often a breast augmentation.

  • Are there medical benefits to this procedure?

While most people think of the tummy tuck as a purely cosmetic procedure, there are also medical benefits. Since having weak abs and lots of flabby skin around the tummy makes exercise uncomfortable, people who receive a tummy tuck often find it easier to keep fit through strengthening of the core abdominal muscles. This can even improve posture and decrease back pain due to weak core strength.

  • Recovery

After your tummy tuck surgery, Dr. Pirani will usually have you stay overnight in our accredited surgical facility. During your stay, you will be tended to by two registered nurses, who will ensure you’re safe and comfortable. Dr. Pirani will see you the next morning to change your dressings and make sure that you’re doing well prior to discharging you home. You will see Dr. Pirani regularly after your tummy tuck surgery.

Patients generally take several weeks to recover from an abdominoplasty. Most patients are able to return to work within two weeks; however, the type of abdominoplasty you receive and the physical demands of your occupation will determine when you can return to work. After an abdominoplasty, you will generally need to wear a compression garment for several weeks to decrease swelling.

  • Consultation

For a tummy tuck consultation, Dr. Pirani will spend approximately 30 minutes discussing your surgical options, after which he will create a custom surgical plan that addresses all of your concerns and goals. He will go over risks and possible complications and give you an idea of what you should expect in terms of results and recovery. Dr. Pirani’s goal is to educate you so that you fully understand your customized surgical plan and feel confident and informed.

  • Procedure Cost

    $11,000 – $14,000 (Taxes not included)
