Shape Male Breast Reduction

Excess breast tissue in men (gynecomastia) is a common condition, but it can cause embarrassment. Dr. Pirani can determine which surgical techniques will provide the best chest contour with the least amount of visible scarring, so you can feel confident again.

About the Treatment

  • Who is a good candidate for male breast reduction (gynecomastia) surgery?

Men with large breast mounds or a large breast size, large areolas (the dark area around the nipple), or prominent or protruding nipples may be good candidates for male breast reduction surgery. In addition, patients should be relatively healthy. Smokers should quit smoking at least four to six weeks prior to surgery.

  • How is a male breast reduction performed?

There are many different techniques available for obtaining the ideal chest contour in men. The specific technique used depends on the amount of excess gland, fat, and skin present.

In men with only excess fat, liposuction alone can be the treatment of choice. The majority of men can be treated with liposuction alone.

In men with excess glandular tissue, a small incision around the areola is needed to remove the excess glandular tissue. Sometimes a combination of gland excision and liposuction is needed to obtain optimal results.

In a small percentage of men, there is a much larger amount of excess gland, fat, and skin. In these cases, larger incisions may be needed to obtain a flat chest contour.

In most cases these incisions are well hidden at the border of the areola. Chest hair also helps hide these incisions. Dr. Pirani will determine what surgical technique(s) will provide you with the optimal results.

  • Recovery

There will be some swelling present for several weeks after your male breast reduction procedure. In most men, some bruising will last anywhere from one to four weeks after the surgery. Dr. Pirani may have you wear a compression garment for two to six weeks after the surgery, depending on the amount of tissue removed.

Most men feel well enough to go back to work within seven days. Dr. Pirani will see you regularly after your male breast reduction surgery to ensure that you’re healing well.

  • Consultation

During a consultation regarding male breast reduction, Dr. Pirani will spend approximately 30 minutes going over all of your surgical options, after which he will create a custom surgical plan that addresses all of your concerns and goals. He will go over risks and possible complications and give you an idea of what you should expect in terms of results and recovery. Dr. Pirani’s goal is to educate you so that you fully understand your customized surgical plan and feel confident and informed.

  • Procedure Cost

    $5,500 – 8,500 (Taxes not included)
