About the Treatment
- Who is a good candidate for this procedure?
Brachioplasty surgery improves upper arm shape, size, and contour. Many patients who have lost a significant amount of weight (often after bariatric surgery) complain of excess upper arm skin. This can result in difficulties in finding clothing that fits well and avoidance of short-sleeved clothing. If you are concerned about excess skin and fat in your arms, you may be a good candidate for this procedure.
- How does Dr. Pirani perform this procedure?
Depending on the amount of excess skin and fat, the surgical incision can vary between a small armpit incision (short scar arm lift) to a longer incision along the entire length of the upper arm. This latter incision is often reserved for cases with a significant amount of excess skin, such as in the post-bariatric patient.
Dr. Pirani will often combine a traditional brachioplasty, or arm lift procedure, with liposuction in order to optimize your overall results.
There will be some swelling present for several weeks after your procedure. In most patients, some bruising will last anywhere from one to three weeks after the surgery. Dr. Pirani will have you wear a compression garment for two to six weeks after the surgery, depending on the amount of tissue removed.
Most patients feel well enough to go back to work within seven days. Dr. Pirani will see you regularly after your surgery to ensure that you are healing well.
For an arm lift (brachioplasty) consultation, Dr. Pirani will spend approximately 30 minutes going over all of your surgical options, after which he will create a custom surgical plan that addresses all of your concerns and goals. He will go over risks and possible complications and give you an idea of what you should expect in terms of results and recovery. Dr. Pirani’s goal is to educate you so that you fully understand your customized surgical plan and feel confident and informed.
